The village of Saint-Gingolph is separated into two communities by the Franco-Swiss border, there represented by the Morge River. As a result, there exists a French Saint-Gingolph and a Swiss Saint-Gingolph. Located 20 minutes from the towns of Evian, Monthey and Montreux, the village is accessible by road, by rail and by boats run by the CGN ("General Navigation Company"). Saint-Gingolph is built right up against the majestic mountains of Grammont and Blanchard, and benefits from a long, 8-kilometre lakeshore.
The village's location at the far end of the Morge Dale protects it from the violent thunder storms that break upon Lake Léman. During the Belle Epoque period, Saint-Gingolph was famous among tourists for its mild micro-climate.
On the heights of Saint-Gingolph lies the hamlet of Frenay. A very popular tourist destination during the summer, the hamlet enjoys a marvellous setting, with forests, clearings, picnic sites and numerous walks (to the lakes of Tanay, Lovenex and Darbon, the mountains of Grammont, Dent d'Oche and the Cornettes de Bise, the village of Novel, etc.). The hamlet of Bret on Lake Léman offers visitors its natural beach and forest trails.
